We  (FOPE) are looking to resurrect our Adopt-a-Stream program.

This is a habitat restoration program supported by the Nova Scotia Salmon Association.

Adopt a Stream focuses on improving fish habitat, especially spawning areas in rivers and tributaries. This is achieved mainly by improving flow and deepening pools through a system of installing digger logs and deflectors. It also involves fish ladders for navigation up stream, electric fences to control livestock access to streams and vegetation transplanting to prevent erosion.

Wanted: A person to coordinate and manage this program. (Click on RESOURCES to view locally produced info.

Desirable attributes:

  • Like working outdoors and be in good physical health
  • Have an interest in environmental issues
  • Be able to supervise students
  • Some knowledge of the Pugwash River and Estuary would be an asset.

This would be a paid position for July and August, with possible extension some years. Training is provided by the NS Salmon Association for both summer students and co-ordinator.
