Hiking the FOPE Trails

WE have two great hikes for you this summer - both on our two new trails.  Both are being led by our summer staff people.   Join FOPE's two summer students, Charlotte and Lesley, for a guided hike.  Learn about the estuary history, flora and fauna, local geology, and estuarine environments.

The hikes are welcome to participants of all ages. Hikers should bring water, good hiking shoes, bug spray/ bug jacket, and a lunch/snacks.

Wednesday, August 16 -  Estuary Trail

Meeting time: 9:00 am, expecting to start hiking at 9:30 am
Meeting place: Friends of the Pugwash Estuary House (2169 Crowley Road)
Trail length: 3 km
Length of hike: 1 hour
Trail difficulty: Easy

Friday, August 18 - Peace Trail

Last summer, Bob Nogler and our summer student, Colin built the Peace Trail.  It crosses land owned by the Seagull Foundation, Windsor Salt and the NCCC.

Meeting place: Friends of the Pugwash Estuary House (2169 Crowley Road)
Trail length: 7.5 km
Length of hike: 3 hours

Flotilla Info for Saturday, August12, 2017

 

It is time for another Summer  Flotilla!

The launch in Conns Mills starts at 2:30 p.m. We will wind approximately 10 km downriver and end up at the Estuary House at 2169 Crowley Road.  An assortment of enjoyment awaits including music and food from 5 - 7 p.m .

Everyone is welcome !   And if you don't want to paddle, try one of our wonderful hiking trails or - just come to the party!  Meet our two summer students Lesley and Charlotte.

Donations will be appreciated.

Potluck food ( salads, desserts ect.)  may be dropped off anytime after noon on Saturday . 

Anyone in a boat must have a life vest and whistle. All vessels to come equipped with a 50 ft rope and a bailer .

Fall Flotilla 2017

This Fall Flotilla will be a bit special.  On September 23rd, FOPE will host the opening of the Peace Trail.  A First Nation's elder will conduct an appropriate ceremony and there will be an official ribbon cutting.  Some will hike; others will paddle.  There will be bird watching and floral identification.   Join us for our CANADA 150 celebration.  More information about this big celebration to follow.

Feast of Land and Sea - Fourth Annual

Save September 9th!  That is when we will be holding our fourth annual feast of land and sea. This year we will feature the cooking of award-winning Fox Harbour's  Shane Robilliard who is promising to create a menu to make your mouth water!
